City Centre Attraction Design and Build

ModTruss by Triple E is used to build a show-stopping attraction for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Attention grabbing design

The client, a well-established Edinburgh Fringe Festival venue operator, required an anchor attraction to site at the centre of their new outdoor fringe venue. Something that would attract the hard-fought over crowds and publicity to the area, in-turn keeping them there to spend money on show tickets or food and refreshments.

Adaptable to the industry

Triple E's design, working in collaboration with an industry specialist produced a design with a unique large viewing platform at the very top, very unlike traditional small enclosed designs, that was also over 400 times stronger than a normal helter-skelter. Custom brackets provided the mounting points for the fibreglass slide to attach to the structure. Stock components were used for all other parts required, and after an Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS) design review and inspection, 'Sip & Slide' was approved as an amusement attraction for public use. All project managed by our in-house team at Triple E.

Modular building method

As a temporary site in the middle of one of Edinburgh's busiest streets, build times were tight, we had just over 24hrs to clear the street after the close of the festival. Because of this, the decision was made to design the structure to travel and build as several pre-assembled modules, with flooring panels dropping into pre-attached joist hangars and the central stair column travelling as one unit designed to be moved with a Hi-Ab.

Conceived and designed to a request

The original client requirement was for an anchor attraction, and Triple E were given a blank page to work from. Using our knowledge in several related fields and some brainstorming with the client, we conceived the idea of a visually distinctive slide, viewing platform for enjoying drinks and taking the all-important selfies, but also something that could run from 10:00 in the morning until midnight. The helter-skelter became the must-go-to hen do attraction that month in Edinburgh.
